New York Becomes 5th State to Ban Religious Exemptions
Last week, New York legislators voted to eliminate religious exemptions for vaccines. Assembly Bill A2371A was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo just hours later. The new law was passed less than three weeks after Maine became the fifth U.S. state to ban religious exemptions for vaccination.
Measles: Frightening Epidemic or Fabricated Editorial?
Like many before him, Governor Cuomo cited concern for a rise in measles cases as the primary reason for prohibiting religious and personal exemptions. He said,
While I understand and respect freedom of religion, our first job is to protect the public health and by signing this measure into law, we will help prevent further transmissions and stop this outbreak right in its tracks.”
But the “outbreak” seems to consist more of media sensationalism and government fear mongering than actual severe health risks. At the time the bill was signed, there were 1,044 reported cases of measles in the U.S. – and no fatalities. Just last year, more than twice that number (2,167) died due to constipation. And while complications arising from measles can be serious, they don’t come close to a national crisis.
Certainly not one that requires the stripping of our freedom.
The risk of serious complications from measles in the developed world are paltry. Over the past 20 years you are more likely to die or suffer life-threatening complications due to the measles vaccine than you are from measles in the U.S.
But that hasn’t stopped power-hungry politicians and a myth-peddling media from villainizing anyone who opposes them. New York State Senator Brad Hoylman, who co-sponsored the bill, was abundantly clear regarding his opinion of those with whom he disagrees:
The atrocious peddlers of junk science and fraudulent medicine who we know as anti-vaxxers have spent years sowing unwarranted doubt and fear, but it is time for legislators to confront them head-on.”
The Truth About Religious Freedom
Hoylman is also Jewish, which is noteworthy because a high concentration of New York’s measles cases have been reported in orthodox Jewish communities. In fact, some of these communities have been targeted for oppressive, tyrannical persecution. Just a few months ago, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency, forcing families in select zip codes of Rockland County to vaccinate their children or pay fines up to $1,000.
“It was time to take a more muscular approach. The faster everyone heeds the order, the faster we can lift it,” said de Blasio.
Authoritarian mandates like this have been common in New York, and although many have been deemed unlawful in court, the new legislation will make it much harder for parents to exercise any choice when it comes to the health and safety of their children. Even the right to interpret religious text seems to be in the hands of our politicians.
“I’m not aware of anything in the Torah, the Bible, the Koran or anything else that suggests you should not get vaccinated,” said Bronx Democrat Jeffrey Dinowitz, who co-sponsored the bill. And though Dinowitz is not a religious scholar of any sort, he seems perfectly content to interpret sacred texts followed by over half the global population.
Many have quoted an article titled “What the world’s religions teach, applied to vaccines and immune globulins,” which determined that people of all religions should receive vaccines.
But its author, John Grabenstein, was a researcher for vaccine manufacturer Merck and currently serves as Executive Director of Global Health & Medical Affairs for Merck’s vaccine division.
Merck generated $1.8 billion in revenue last year from the MMR vaccine.
Infants Face Forced Vaccinations
And the reach of these pharmaceutical behemoths is massive. Even Rockland County’s own representatives have betrayed them. Assembly member Kenneth Zebrowski, who represents Rockland County, supported the bill that would effectively strip away medical freedom from his constituents. But Assembly member Zebrowski took it one step further.
Despite warnings that children should not receive their first dose of the MMR vaccine until 12-15 months of age, Zebrowski injected his daughter with the vaccine at only 6 months old! Crippled by fear and a pressure to conform with his democratic peers in the political arena, he willingly put his infant daughter in harm’s way.
“We had to get our kids over-vaccinated because of this epidemic. I’m not particularly thrilled,” Zebrowski said.
I wouldn’t allow someone to inject my child with any dangerous vaccine at 6 months old or at any age. And to be clear, the MMR vaccine IS DANGEROUS. Side effects of the vaccine listed by the manufacturer include anaphylaxis, pneumonia, pancreatitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, meningitis, measles, and death.
This is only the first step. We’ve seen in California how doctors are being persecuted for granting medical exemptions. Politicians with pompous ambitions want to take medical decisions away from doctors and put them into the hands of bureaucrats. Behind the scenes, companies like Merck are orchestrating it all.
The legislation in New York passed the Assembly with only one vote to spare. If the state’s citizens were more aware and engaged with their representatives, they might still have a choice regarding their children’s health.

Is there a middle ground to this? I understand personal choice is always key, but is there anything to the concept of herd immunity?
Is this an argument on who should comprise those in the level of vaccination needed to achieve herd immunity? I’ve read that varies by disease but ranges from 83 to 94 percent.

We in NYS did put up a valiant fight, engaging with our reps non-stop, night and day. That’s the only reason the bill almost didn’t make it out of committee, initially tied 13-13, until 1 Dem legislator was strong-armed by the majority leader to change his vote. As far as “herd immunity” goes, first, it’s only a theory, never proven, and second, LESS THAN 1% OF NYS RESIDENTS CLAIMED A RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION! So this unproven theory had nothing to do with this bill. And now, as parents of a vaccine-injured son who lost the ability to speak and most of his motor function after his first MMR shot at 15 months old (never got it back; now 23 yrs old), we’re being told that our infant grandchildren must also be offered up on the altar of pharma profit, or else.
Patricia, I am so so sorry. My son was vaccine injured by MMR but he was 3 years old and managed to come through it within 10 days. But now, we are moving to upstate. Will my 11 year-old and 6 year-old be mandated to get MMR? Maybe we should move to Connecticut instead.

Vaccinations are being pushed like no other time in history and now some states are removing the religious exemption for parents of children who do not want their children vaccinated. These are the same states that welcome illegal aliens from many parts of the world and even some third world countries. Do you think illegal immigrants have been vaccinated? Well of course not, but nothing is ever said about the possibility of those illegal aliens bringing diseases that have been eradicated or have never been seen in our country. That issue concerns me more than any other, Over 150 African illegal immigrants just came into our country and they originated from where the hot bed of Ebola is located. Yes, “herd immunity” is another modern myth. There is complexity to the study of vaccines so be prepared to dig in; like Greg says! The best “herd immunity” is when mothers, who have experienced the illness, pass it on to their unborn child. A wild virus is never encountered by injection. Injecting microbes is dangerous. I really love your emails but I have to disagree with you about vaccinations. Yes, there may be risks but the spread of modern contagious diseases are frightening enough. We cannot willingly let back in viruses that have been reduced so signifiicantly over the passed 70 years. It makes no sense. And this at a time where we are seeing the limitations of antibiotics due to overuse. I thought hard and did my research before I gave my son the mmr vaccination. The benefits outweighed the risks for humanity. My son is now a very healthy 16 year old. Amen.

I had the chicken pox, measles, mumps, and German measles when I was a child and survived these illnesses.And it is good to know that I have natural immunity to these illnesses, whereas anyone who is vaccinated does not and never will. OMG it wasnt pleasant but at 68 yrars I survived meales, mumps, German measles and chicken pox as a child. A parent has the right to decide if they want their child vaccinated. If they are not allowed in school, they will then be given home instruction which will cost far more for each child.

Maybe the push should be to make vaccines that are actually safe. Why the need for all the preservatives if they are refrigerated all the way to the patient? So many dangerous ingredients would be eliminated. Good idea for a new start-up company by anti-vaxers!? What was used in the first vaccines years ago? I doubt they used mercury, formaldehyde, etc., etc.

As I was growing up; chiropractic care was argued to be quackery. Somehow, all alternative therapies fell into that category. Who said so? I don’t remember but we were taught a lot of things in school, or am I remembering television advertisements? Some of what we were taught, or assumed to be true, wasn’t; like corn oil margerine and cigarettes. Drugs and chemicals, some were thought to be so good but later, studies and problems told a different story.
Meanwhile, we’re living in a toxic swamp of chemicals. Agricultural chemicals have long been a problem; DDT, Agent Orange and now glyphosate. Besides those, petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides are leading us into extinction, after killing off everything else around us, like bees and worms. It’s said we’re well ‘into’ a mass extinction unknown before.
Healthcare has been too much wrong in the past; lobotomies, mastectomies, tonsillectomies too. Pharmaceuticals are responsible for more deaths than accidents? How many drugs can you name, that have been withdrawn from the market? My career as a RN, maybe I’m more aware than most. Pain meds, psych meds, heart meds too; there have been many mistakes. What ‘mistakes’ might they be making now, maybe hiding; all for profits, and riches? Meanwhile, in measures of healthcare outcomes, the US is falling behind to around 50th in some measures now? That’s terrible considering that we overspend everyone in our efforts; what’s happening? I’ve been looking more into what is categorized as ‘alternative’ medicine, as an alternative to the mainstream. I’d recommend getting out of legislating our healthcare, before they kill us all. Legislating our healthcare by powerful, rich, pharmaceutical giants, for their profits (not so-much our health) is dangerous.
Today, they increasingly want to give us more ‘shots’. Why not, can you blame them; there is now no pharmaceutical responsibility or accountability. All our government agencies are taken over by pharmaceutical talking-heads, endorsing more and more chemicals-of-destruction for our benefit. Forget exemptions; we need more heathcare options covered by insurance. It’s not insurance, it’s blackmail.
You’re absolutely right! If you haven’t done it yet, look into the history of our allopathic medical system with the Rockefeller’s, Carnegie families, etc, etc. It is shocking & disturbing to say the least & explains a lot when it comes to what we are seeing today. It’s also exactly why holistic methods of healing have been looked upon as “quackery” since allopathy’s inception. It was all designed to push pharmacology & “a pill for an ill” mentality. Look where it has gotten us…makes me so damn mad!! Sad fact is Pharma appears to rule the world in many respects. They control the news, regulatory agencies that are supposed to protect us, governments, healthcare, public & private health policies. They don’t give a crap about us. It’s all about control & money & is so evil.😡
What about HIPPA? My healthcare, my choice? My insurance only covers those properly licensed doctors and I don’t but rarely go to see them. Insurance isn’t “my” insurance; it’s theirs. It’s political and legal issues, not my healthcare choices. But they want to control my healthcare choices, make those decisions for me, give me shots I don’t want or need? Why shots, because I don’t take their pills?
People have adverse reactions to so many different things. Like peanuts, gluten, bee stings ect….. the list is endless. For anyone to say that there is a magical vaccine shot which is perfect for everyone with not side affects is fooling themselves. The evidence of vaccine damages are everywhere. Not everyone is the same nor do they react the same to shots. That is a fact. Why don’t we prescreen people before giving them dangerous chemicals to see if they are able to handle it? But we all know this is about money and profits for the phamicutical companies because politicians are all corrupted and they definitely don’t care about any of us that much.
How sad is that…. a doctor who would vaccinate the child under the recommended age.
